The City of Spring Hill invites area residents to participate in an important effort that will shape the growth of the community as well protect vital natural resources. To that end, the City is hosting the first of three public forums at 5:30 p.m., April 4 at the Spring Hill Community Center, 613 South Race.

The meeting is the first of three such forums that are part of a Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy Project (WRAPS) study. The grant-financed study is designed to identify ways to reduce pollutants in the lakes; protect the stream corridors and natural resources; protect properties from flooding; and plan for smart growth.

This is especially important to the Spring Hill community as its rapid growth has the potential to increase stormwater runoff and pollutants that can damage downstream property, streams, water quality and habitats. Action must be taken now to protect Hillsdale Lake and City Lake.

However, a technical document is only as good as its implementation. The understanding and involvement of residents and property owners is necessary for that implementation to occur.

At the April 4 meeting, the process for the study and goals of the project will be outlined. Additionally, residents will be asked to share their knowledge of and concerns about the area.

Contact Public Works Director Rory Hale at 913.592.3317 with questions about the meeting or the project.

More meeting materials, including handouts and fact sheets, will be posted to this page following each public meeting.
